Dirk Hordorff accuses Federer of changing the scoring system

Almost like an outlet, there is no public appearance in the media in which Dirk Hordorff, Vice President of the German Tennis Federation, do not use it to criticize. It is common to see him give a negative opinion of some player, body or aspect of tennis today, so the last one was not going to be less. This time, the object of his criticism has been none other than the Swiss Roger Federer.

In statements made in the podcast of the German portal ‘Tennisnet’, Hordorff loads his inks with the Swiss as a result of the ranking that the ATP approved after the pandemic occurred, by which the 18 best results of the last 22 months would be taken into account ( March 2019 to December 2020), instead of the last 52 weeks. According to the German leader, Federer pushed for this rule and lobbied for it to be carried out.

“Federer is doing his own ranking, he changed the ranking method to protect himself. It is irresponsible and just wrong. In my opinion, he takes advantage of his position on the Players Council. However, it must be said that without the change in the system Roger Federer would not be in the top 50. ”(would actually be number 29).

Hordorff’s complaints were extended in more general terms, since from his point of view, the ATp is withholding points for too long that would benefit higher-level players. “That the points of the ATP Finals, the 19th tournament of the year, are kept for two years? That’s wicked. ”
