“Corona-safe environment”: Darts World Cup in Alexandra Palace with fans

Dhe Darts World Championship in London’s Alexandra Palace should also take place with an audience in Corona year 2020. 1000 fans per session should be allowed for the event from December 15th. With the current regulation, the PDC world association does not have to accept such significant loss of spectators. Even in normal years, the “Ally Pally” can only accommodate up to 3000 spectators per session.

In London, for example, only a maximum of 2000 fans are allowed into the stadiums of the major football clubs, even though, like Arsenal FC, they actually have 60,000 spectators.

The PDC speaks of a “Corona-safe environment under special conditions”. So far, since the beginning of the pandemic in March, all darts tournaments had to be held without an audience. Games on the World Tour were even completely suspended from mid-March to July.

One of the rules for the World Cup is that only UK fans can purchase tickets. In recent years the event has become increasingly popular, especially with German fans, who made up the largest group of spectators from abroad.

Costumes are prohibited, Christmas sweaters are allowed

Interested parties can book a table for four people and share it with people in their household. Food and drinks should be able to be ordered at the table with a special app. The spectators have to arrive in the hall at a fixed time and can enter via one of two entrances.

Alcoholic drinks should also be allowed. Nonetheless, it will be a World Cup, and the atmosphere will not have much in common with previous ones. “Unfortunately it is not possible for us this year to allow spectators in costumes on site,” wrote the professional association in its official announcement: “Christmas sweaters are allowed.” Chants and chants “in football style” are also prohibited.
