Confirmed return for national basketball

The National Basketball League has a return date after the scandal over the Coronavirus outbreak and finally yesterday it was learned that the activity will return on December 4.

After the 2020/21 season of the Argentine National League was temporarily suspended due to the large number of positive cases of COVID in the competition delegations, work is being done to achieve a definition on the return date of this campaign: Básquet Plus contacted Sergio Guerrero, technical secretary of the Club Association, who informed that the idea is for it to take place next Friday, December 4.

According to the member of the AdC, the objective is that on December 4, 6 and 7 the first three return dates of the competition will be played. The first day will correspond to the missing matches of the phase in which only teams from the same Conferences meet, either the North or the South.

After that, we will proceed to continue but with clashes all against all. The sequence will be two consecutive days of activity and then two days off until the cutoff on December 25.

The details

There would be a total of 38 regular stage presentations for each of the clubs and ten would be played per day. In the case of games suspended due to positive COVID cases or suspected cases, the plan is that these are rescheduled after December and those who could not or may not appear due to the impact of the virus will not be considered lost. Those who have already suffered suspensions will try to play from January at the time when the teams that had to reschedule have to face each other again.

Already in January, February and March, before the playoffs, one of the ideas is to prepare several venues in which the teams can be divided. The number of clubs per city, if this format is the one that ends up being the definitive one, will obviously be smaller than the current one in which the twenty are in the Federal Capital.

After those appearances, the twelve best records in the standings will qualify for the playoffs. The first four of them will go straight to the quarterfinals, while the remaining eight will compete in the eighths. That stage is expected to begin in April. One of the searches is to put together traditional series of the best of five games with localities and seven in the finals, but it will depend on the pandemic and the possibilities it offers.

According to Guerrero, the idea is that the 2020/21 campaign of the National League ends near the end of the first half of May.
