Lionel Messi broke the record for goals scored for one club – owned by Pelé until then. To celebrate this accomplishment, the Budweiser beer brand, Messi’s partner, decided to offer each of the goalkeepers beaten by the Argentine a bottle of collector’s beer per goal conceded.

During the success of Barça on the lawn of Real Valladolid, Tuesday night in La Liga (0-3), Lionel Messi erased the name of Pelé from the tablets, scoring a 644th goal for the Catalan club, thus exceeding the 643 of the auriverde legend with the tunic of Santos. Subsequently, the native of Rosario did not hide his joy: ““When I started playing football, I never thought I would break a record. And even less the one I reached today and that Pelé held.. I can only thank everyone who has helped me during all these years: my teammates, my family, my friends, and all those who support me every day “, he had expressed on his Instagram account.

Last September, beer brand Budweiser signed a partnership with Messi and after the number 10 scoring record, they made the decision to celebrate it their own way. Thus, each of the guards who were victims of the Argentinian received a bottle of collector’s beer for each goal conceded. They are 160 to have had a Christmas present. Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas received 17 beers, when Diego Alves (former Valencia goalkeeper) was able to count 21 beers outside his door.

Gianluigi Buffon, the goalkeeper of Juventus Turin wanted to congratulate Messi, after having also had the right to his gifts (beers 514 and 515). “Thanks for the beers. I take it as a compliment. We’ve had some great duels over the years! Congratulations on breaking the record, Messi! It’s an incredible achievement!”
