Beaskoetxea and Manci are solid and win in Gernika

Beaskoetxea and Manci won the Gernika Grand Slam of the top basket yesterday, the last scoring event for the Jai Alai World Tour circuit. They beat (2-0) Antxon and Zabala in a duel that they dominated from the beginning thanks to the greater solidity shown by both and the success of the local striker. The Colorados knew how to make their options versus a combination in which the defender was not fine, and the forward had less prominence than he would like.

The veteran Beaskoetxea tipped the balance in terms of favoritism before starting the contest and, little by little, began to make a difference. The start of the contest was quite cold on the part of the four protagonists and the errors prevailed over the successes so the score remained even until the tie at three. It was from then on when the colorados they began to decant the first set on their side. The gernikarra had more chances to finish and did not miss them.

The Blues resisted because Antxon managed to get a bit more into play and pressed the result again (8-7), but they lacked consistency to put their rivals in trouble. Beaskoetxea and Manci maintained the same performance and opened a gap of five goals (13-8) that was definitive for the outcome of the first set. His rivals had to take risks, but it was too late (15-11).

Urko Lekerika’s injury

The second also started facing the Colorados (6-1) with Beaskoetxea very active. Antxon and Zabala reacted by having phases of good play and managed to get closer to two goals (12-10), but they lacked regularity (15-11).

Third place went to Aarón and Mandiola after Urko Lekerika’s injury. It was in the first set with the score 9-3. The Gernikarra, who was winning alongside Del Río, served a serve and felt a tear in his right bicep that forced him to abandon the match.
