Basketball.-Baskonia recovers to a bad start to defeat Valencia Basket

MADRID, 29 (EUROPA PRESS)

TD Systems Baskonia closed the year 2020 with a worked joy after defeating Valencia Basket 71-70 on the seventeenth day of the Regular Phase of the 2020-2021 Euroleague, after a match in which they managed to recover from a bad start.

The first quarter at the Fernando Buesa Arena seemed to make it clear that the ‘taronja’ team could take the victory, but the offensive success of those first ten points by Jaume Ponsarnau’s did not have continuity in the rest of the duel, while those of Dusko Ivanovic improved from defense to take a valuable victory that leaves him with 8-8 balance and hooked on the fight for the ‘playoffs’.

Supported by a great success from the triple and on the work of Derrick Williams, the visitors overwhelmed those of Dusko Ivanovic from the initial jump. The 9-25 that the scoreboard indicated reflected the difference between the two and although Valencia Basket finished 17-30 that first quarter, from then on it lost all its hallmarks.

Little by little, with a lot of work behind and without haste, Baskonia was reacting and gripping the attack of a ‘taronja’ team that saw how with ten minutes left they had lost almost all their advantage (58-55). On this occasion, Ponsarnau could not solve the offensive problems of his team, who only scored 23 points after the break, and who were also the victim of Polonara (18 points) and Giedraitis (14).

The Baskonia team endorsed a 6-0 run just after the beginning of the final quarter to finally take the lead on the Buesa Arena scoreboard and Valencia Basket could no longer recover it despite a couple of draws. With 68-68, with just two minutes to go, Polonara hit from the triple and although his team did not score more he was able to take the victory.
