As expected, the group favorite, the Netherlands, was one size too big for Austria: the Dutch made the ÖBV team with 4: 1 and are about to move into the final round of the Mixed Team European Championship 2021 in Finland.

After the dream start against the Czech Republic (3-2 victory), the ÖBV team was sobered on the second day of the Mixed Team European Championship qualification in Linz. Team boss Kent Madsen changed the line-up in the individual games and brought in Dominik Stipsits / Serena Au Yeong a new mixed pair. Stipsits / Au Yeong started almost perfectly – even had 4 set balls – which they unfortunately could not use and only just lost with 24:26, 17:21. State champion Wolfgang Gnedt got better and better as the game continued – the Austrian Open winner of 2019 and No. 36 in the world, Mark Caljouw, was too strong – Gnedt lost with 7:21, 14:21. Jenny Ertl had few chances on her debut in the national team against the Dutch top talent Jaymie Laurens and lost with 12:21, 10:21. The men’s double Dominik Stipsits / Philip Birker remains unbeaten. After a tough fight they used the 4th match point to win 21:17, 14:21, 22:20 and scored the honor point. The women’s doubles with Serena Au Yeong / Katharina Hochmeir went 2-0 to the Dutch to make it 4-1.

On Saturday the Austrian team will fight Slovakia for 2nd place in the group at 4:00 p.m.
