Diego Costa is transfer-free at the end of the season, but seems to be leaving Atlético Madrid before then. According to various international media, the Spanish naturalized Brazilian has submitted a transfer request to Los Rojiblancos.
It had been clear for some time that his contract would not be renewed. However, Costa is now betting on a winter transfer. According to AS, Mundo Deportivo and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, ‘family reasons’ are the basis for this. Atlético Madrid therefore seems willing to cooperate with the 32-year-old striker, given his many years of service. Clubs from China and his native Brazil would have already informed.
Costa was picked up from Portuguese Sporting Braga in 2007, left for Rayo Vallecano after three loan spins, was bought back by Atlético and still became a defining player at The Rojiblancos. The striker scored 27 goals during the 2013/2014 season and took the league title with Atlético, before moving to Chelsea. Three years later, he returned to Madrid: over the years, Costa has scored 83 goals in 215 official appearances on behalf of his current employer.
Confirmed. Diego Costa is set to leave Atlético and won’t extend his contract, as reported here days ago.
He’s been contacted by Chinese and Brazilian clubs for January. Diego will take his time to decide his next destination. His Atléti time is over. ð????´â??ªï¸?? #Athletes @MatteMoretto https://t.co/GtB6s67WWo
