At some point “pull the plug”

Boris Becker loves the headlines and vice versa. Now the tennis legend reveals, however, that she no longer wants to be in public, feels “instrumentalized” and wants to “pull the plug”. That this happens in an Amazon podcast specially designed for Becker is absurd.
Boris Becker talks about Boris Becker: The tennis icon is currently recounting her life on and off the court week after week. The Amazon Music podcast “Boris Becker – The Fifth Sentence” is about the “challenges, successes and disappointments” of his career. The conversation partner is Johannes B. Kerner. In the first of five episodes, Becker talked about finding himself in the headlines with private things too – and reveals when he no longer feels like the hustle and bustle of the public.
“How does the Boris Becker story end in the media?” Asks the tennis legend himself. “How can I pull the plug?” He had now thought about that. Since his Wimbledon victory over three decades ago, Becker has been at home in the newspapers, magazines and TV programs. It’s no longer about his sporting successes, but about his wives and marriages, his children or, more recently, more and more unpleasant topics such as his financial problems. In an interview with Kerner, Becker described July 7, 1985, the day on which he lifted the Wimbledon trophy for the first time at the age of 17, as a “second birthday”.
Nevertheless, he is a little surprised by the media attention: “Since that day, an incredible amount has been reported about me,” says Becker. “I thought it would stop at some point. That I’m still so exciting at 53 surprised me.” However, Becker has always contributed to the fact that everyone reports about him. On the contrary – again and again he himself brings topics into public: affairs, seed theft, dirty divorces, tax evasion, debts, private feuds with Oliver Pocher, for example, bankruptcy.
Why hasn’t he pulled the plug long ago?
“I was far too open, far too naive, far too nice, because I had nothing to hide,” says Becker now. “It wasn’t until five or six years ago that I really understood that I was being instrumentalized for decades.” The tennis legend is still very active on Twitter, gives his personal opinion on all kinds of topics and likes to mess with the Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios.
In 2020, the spotlight will be on Boris Becker mainly because he had to answer before a London criminal court: In his bankruptcy proceedings, he is said to have failed to comply with his information obligation in court in 19 cases, including cups, medals and the family villa in Glues have not specified. The house is currently for sale on the Internet, the former tennis professional is still awaiting trial in a London court in September 2021.
Becker feels outlawed by the media, but also says in the podcast that he wants to “remain tangible”. Ultimately, he probably benefits financially from the attention like no other, which he can currently use. Hence this new Amazon podcast, which has made it into the headlines again.
At some point, however, he says, “I’ll get into the situation, I swear, where I’ll pull the plug and where the public person Boris Becker no longer exists.” This is the only way. Boris Becker probably only reveals to Boris Becker why the tennis legend hasn’t pulled this plug long ago, since he himself explained that he “got it” years ago. But Boris Becker probably loves Boris Becker too much in the headlines to just give up attention.
