Arsenal, Eindhoven and Prague victorious

BWhen the fans returned to England, their home country of football, Arsenal FC easily stormed to group victory in the Europa League. The Gunners won in the first game of an English team in front of spectators since the outbreak of the corona pandemic last March against Rapid Wien 4-1 (3-0) and thus secured the one million euro bonus early one round before the end of the group phase for first place in group B.

At least five German professionals and their clubs can look forward to a place in the intermediate round. Former world champion Mario Götze, national player Philipp Max and Timo Baumgartl recorded a 1-0 (1-0) with PSV Eindhoven under the direction of the German coach Roger Schmidt at front-runner FC Granada and thus at least secured second place. National player Luca Waldschmidt and the once successful former Dortmund player Julian Weigl also celebrated their entry into the knockout phase at Benfica Lisbon after their substitutions in the 4-0 (1-0) against Lech Posen.

Slavia Prague victorious

Internationally, Slavia Prague from Bayer Leverkusen’s Group C also hibernated after a 3-0 (2-0) against Hapoel Be “er Sheva, Arsenal’s Premier League rival Tottenham Hotspur (3-3 at LASK Linz) in Group J, Italy League leaders AC Milan (4-2 against Celtic G Glasgow) in Group H and Benfica’s opponents in the preliminary round Glasgow Rangers (3-2 against Standard Liège). Like Arsenal as group winners, AS Roma also move into the knockout phase from Group A (3-1 against Young Boys Bern).

Arsenal, which started against Vienna with the former world champion Shkodran Mustafi, welcomed the maximum contingent of 2000 visitors in its arena through regional relaxation of the spectator ban that had been in place for over eight months from the day before against Vienna. The limited admission of fans is not only possible in London but also in the Merseyside region of champions Liverpool and local rivals Everton.
