A parliamentary commission of inquiry into the “fiasco” of the Mediapro contract?

The deputy (LREM) Cédric Roussel, also president of the study group on the economy of sport at the National Assembly, will ask for the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry to shed light on the Mediapro contract on telé rights of L1 and L2, in the process of being buried.

“We need some clarification because this case will have consequences. It shouldn’t be a failure for nothing ”, explained Mr. Roussel to Agence France Presse on Friday. The parliamentarian, who had denounced eight days ago “Mediapro’s thug attitudes and the field of ruin left by its release”, indicated that he would file his request in the coming hours, with a view to starting hearings in January.

Cédric Roussel has already conducted multiple hearings this fall, with the majority of the actors but not Mediapro, which did not follow up. The commission of inquiry, a more restrictive mechanism because the people interviewed are required to respond to summons, “Is an obvious consequence” for him.

“This contract (with Mediapro) is a fiasco and weakens the public service of sport. Solutions must be found so that such a risk does not happen again ”

Cédric Roussel, deputy (LREM) of the Alpes-Maritimes.

Football and sport need more certainty. This contract (with Mediapro) is a fiasco and weakens the public service of sport. Solutions must be found so that such a risk does not happen again ”, he added.

The Professional Football League (LFP) and the Sino-Spanish group, which holds 80% of L1 and L2 matches for € 814 million per year, are in the process of breaking their contract via an agreement which must be validated on Tuesday 22 December by the commercial court of Nanterre.

Even within the football family, voices are rising to demand investigations. As reported in our columns, last Sunday, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi asked that all light be shed on the Mediapro file during the League’s board of directors on December 10. According to his spokesperson, the president of PSG wants a “Full investigation be carried out to find out the shortcomings of all parts of the case, that is to say the League, the clubs, the lawyers, the Chinese shareholder of Mediapro”.
