A first trophy missed for Jan Vertonghen in Portugal

FC Porto won the Portuguese Supercup for the 22nd time in its history, Wednesday night in Aveiro. The team of coach Sergio Conceiçao (ex-Standard), who managed the league-cup double last season, dominated Benfica 2-0 and his Red Devil Jan Vertonghen.

Sergio Oliveira scored the first goal after 25 minutes. Substitute Luis Diaz bolstered Porto’s success in the last minute.

Last year, Benfica won the Portuguese Supercup after a 5-0 victory over city rivals Sporting. Benfica has eight Supercopa victories.

In the league, Porto are only third after ten days of play with 22 points, four less than the leader, Sporting (26). Benfica are second with 24 points.
