2nd Bundesliga: Hamburger SV wins at Karlsruher SC thanks to Simon Terodde

Thanks to Simon Terodde, Hamburger SV continued its upward trend just before the mini winter break of the 2nd Bundesliga. A late goal by the attacker in the 82nd minute secured HSV a 2: 1 (1: 1) victory at Karlsruher SC. This means that the team of coach Daniel Thioune goes into the new year as second in the table and thus on a direct promotion position. Karlsruhe, on the other hand, slipped closer to the relegation places after the third defeat.

Bakery Jatta (3rd minute) gave the guests an early lead in a fast-paced first round. KSC striker Philipp Hofmann (14th) only managed to equalize in the meantime. In the end, Hamburg also benefited from a controversial dismissal for Karlsruhe full-back Philip Heise, who saw yellow-red in the 77th minute for repeated fouls. Nevertheless, Hofmann (90 + 3) still had a great opportunity to equalize in stoppage time, but he failed from close range.

After two victories in a row, HSV started confidently in the Wildpark Stadium. After just over two minutes, Jatta simply shot on goal – and scored to take the lead. Jeremy Dudziak (6th / 34th), Terodde (20th) and Khaled Narey (26th) could have topped it off early on in a fast-paced game, but gave some of the best chances.

Hofmann equalizes, Terodde scores to win

Karlsruhe had lost twice in a row recently, but they benefited from the guests’ offensive style of play. Because the HSV was high, the hosts offered space for counterattacks. Thanks to their speed, Malik Batmaz and Benjamin Goller in particular were able to find their way into these gaps again and again, which paid off early on. After winning the ball in his own half, the ball quickly came to the debutant Batmaz, who crossed the HSV penalty area on striker Hofmann, who converted.

Then a tough game developed – until Terodde struck again. After a cross from Sonny Kittel, the attacker was in the penalty area and prevailed against two KSC defenders.
