Daniil Medvedev won the final of the last Masters 1000 event of the year in Paris-Bercy on Sunday after a set deficit. The 24-year-old Russian beat the German US Open finalist Alexander Zverev after 2:07 hours with 5: 7.6: 4.6: 1. With this, Medvedev overtakes the currently convalescent Roger Federer in the ATP ranking and appears on Monday immediately behind Dominic Thiem in fourth. But he lacks 2,355 points on the Austrian.
But the big topic after the final was talk of loser Zverev. The German remains one of the polarizing characters in the tennis circus. Most recently there were allegations from ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova, who accuses him of physical and psychological violence. Zverev referred to it on the court: “I know that there are a lot of people who want to wipe my smile off my face, but under this mask I have a bright smile”.
“I feel amazing on the court, with the people I love around me. I will probably become a father soon. Everything is great in my life. People can keep trying, but I’m still smiling,” he said Zverev.
These statements were not well received by his critics, especially since Zverev did not respond to the allegations. Some journalists were amazed at the defiant-looking statements given the seriousness of the subject. Numerous users on Twitter reacted horrified to angry about Zverev’s statements. Seldom have there been so many reactions to the speech of a finalist who had only lost one final of a Masters tournament.
Alexander Zverev: “I know that there’s gonna be a lot of people that right now are trying to wipe a smile off my face but under this mask I’m smiling brightly. I feel incredible on court […] everything is great in my life. The people who are trying can keep trying.”
Yeah.

Literally do not know who wrote that atrocious statement Zverev put out, told him to put up that story or advised him to address those things in his speech like that… whoever has green lighted all of this must be a terrible PR manager. Or he must not be listening to them at all
