Zverev beats Wawrinka and now meets Nadal

The German number one reached the semi-finals in Paris-Bercy after a strong performance against the three-time Grand Slam winner from Switzerland. Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal is now waiting.

Germany’s top player Alexander Zverev challenges Rafael Nadal at his premiere in the semifinals of the Paris Masters. In the quarter-finals against Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland / No. 12), the man from Hamburg had little trouble on Friday evening and won his eleventh match in a row with a confident 6: 3, 7: 6 (7: 1). He had previously won both tournaments in Cologne.

“That was a good game, a decent performance,” said Zverev after he had converted his first match point after 1:25 hours: “I’m looking forward to my first semi-final here. It will be an interesting match. You always have to be smart against Rafa play.”

Nadal takes out Carreno Busta

The top seeded Nadal had a little more struggle before. The world number two from Spain defeated his compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta 4: 6, 7: 5, 6: 1 and can still hope for his first triumph at the indoor tournament in Paris-Bercy.

His record against Zverev is five wins from seven games, but the most recent match at the ATP Finals 2019 went to the German.

The French Open champion had broken the sound barrier of 1000 victories on the ATP tour two days earlier when entering the round of 16. Milos Raonic (Canada / No. 10) and Daniil Medvedev (Russia / No. 3) contest the second semi-final.

After Nadal’s victory, it is also certain that Diego Schwartzman (Argentina / No. 6) has qualified for the ATP final in London for the first time. This completes the field for the competition from November 15th to 22nd.
