Cologne (SID) – Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus won the last WTA tournament of the year. The 22-year-old prevailed in the final in Linz against her long-time doubles partner Elise Mertens from Belgium 7: 5, 6: 2 and celebrated her second title in a row. Sabalenka had recently triumphed in Ostrava in the Czech Republic.
Ostrau and Linz were the only two women’s tournaments after the clay court tour that was postponed to autumn, with the French Open as the highlight. The Asia tour, including the season finale in Shenzhen, was canceled due to the corona pandemic.
