VanVleet signs largest contract for a non-drafted player

Toronto Raptors moves. The Canadian franchise (or Tampa during the pandemic) has renewed one of its key players: Fred VanVleet. The guard (26 years and 1.83 meters) will continue for the next four seasons for 83 million dollars. It is the maximum contract signed by a player not chosen in the draft in the history of the NBA.

Because VanVleet went unnoticed on rookie night 2016, but he is already one of the most important players in the North American League, key in the Raptors’ conquest of the ring in 2019.

From 37 games to start

The Illinois player landed in Canada that same summer of 2016 after participating in the Summer Leagues with the franchise for ridiculous $ 1.45 million in two seasons and, in 2018, for 18 also in two. VanVleet went from playing just 37 games in his rookie year to being an undisputed starter last season after Kawhi Leonard left for the Los Angeles Clippers.

The point guard is a great reference in the Raptors and his growth has been magnificent. As a rookie he only averaged 2.9 points. Already in 2018-19 he exceeded 10 on average with 11 goals per game. This last campaign was the best for him: 17.6 points (39% from triple) and 6.6 assists.
