The world champions Rabaseda, Beirán and Colom lead the national team

Xavi Rabaseda (San Pablo Burgos), Javier Beirán (Herbalife Gran Canaria) and Quino Colom (Valencia Basket), world champions in 2019, top the list of 16 players pre-summoned by Sergio Scariolo for the two qualifying ‘window’ games for the Eurobasket 2022 that Spain will play next week in Valencia.

The Spanish team will face Israel on Saturday the 28th and Romania on Monday the 30th, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Fonteta, after Scariolo reduces the list provided this Friday to 13 players before next Monday. In the first two qualifying days for the Eurobasket, played last February, Spain defeated Romania in Cluj Napoca (71-84) and lost to Poland in Zaragoza (69-80).

«The list is made up of motivated players, some already with some experience with the national team and others who will have the opportunity to debut (in the case of Miquel Salvó, from San Pablo Burgos), and who with a few days of work will be able to form a competitive bloc , cohesive, and as always will try to give that extra energy and collective strength to overcome any possible limitation, “said the national coach.

Scariolo claims to have perceived in all the internationals “a lot of desire to be able to be” in the national team, integrated for the moment, among others, by four players from Unicaja (Francis Alonso, Darío Brizuela, Alberto Díaz and Rubén Guerrero), three from MoraBanc Andorra ( Nacho Llovet, Oriol Paulí and Tyson Pérez), two from Burgos (Xavi Rabaseda and Miquel Salvó) and another two from Joventut (Ferran Bassas and Xabi López-Aróstegui).

“As everyone is doing these months, we had to do an exercise to adapt to different complications: the virus, injuries … other issues that have conditioned us,” lamented the Italian coach.

In addition to Gran Canaria and Valencia, Estudiantes (Víctor Arteaga), Casademont Zaragoza (Jonathan Barreiro) and Monbús Obradoiro (Álex Suárez) are also represented in the call. The most notable absences in the selection, apart from the NBA internationals and the teams that play the Euroleague -Quino Colom has not played even a minute this season with Valencia-, are those of Pablo Aguilar and Sebas Saiz, who They play in Japan and whose procedures to travel to Spain have not been resolved.
