One of the players of the football club “Jelgava” fell ill with COVID-19 disease, but another 18 team players and two coaches have been granted the status of contact persons.

At the Center for Disease Prevention and Control [SPKC] the decision team went into quarantine until December 2. This means that FK “Jelgava” does not have the opportunity to participate in the Premier League championship games scheduled for November 26 and 29.

After 25 rounds, Jelgava residents are in the seventh place in the tournament table, two points ahead of the closest followers of BFC “Daugavpils”.

In Jelgava, the disease was detected only two days after the previous game – on Friday, the Zemgale club fought a draw 2: 2 with “Valmiera FC” in the match transferred to their home. It is interesting that the game of “Jelgava” and “Valmiera FC” did not take place initially due to Covid-19, because the Vidzeme club was in quarantine.

The quarantine of “Jelgava” further complicates the end of the Latvian Premier League season. Before that, several Latvian clubs advocated the end of the season, however, the super league organization committee rejected the clubs’ wishes, continuing the competition.

Currently, 29 representatives of the Latvian championship team “Riga FC” have contracted Covid-19.
