The Mexican Badminton Championship starts in Aguascalientes

Aguascalientes is for the third time the venue for the Mexican Open Badminton Championship, which takes place from this Thursday, November 19 to Sunday, November 22, being an event that receives 56 badminton players from six countries, who will seek to score points in the world rankings heading to the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.

In this regard, the general director of the State Sports Institute (IDEA), Manuel Aceves Rubio, pointed out that this contest is of international stature and is endorsed by the Pan American Badminton Confederation in coordination with the Mexican Badminton Federation, reiterating to the entity as one of the main states for the development of this discipline.

For his part, the president of the Mexican Badminton Federation (Femeba), Francisco Javier Orozco Flores, specified that Aguascalientes has stood out for being one of the main badminton venues in Mexico in recent years, placing itself in the international sights of this individual sport, for which he thanked the sporting push by state authorities towards sport.

Badminton players from the countries of Peru, Colombia, Canada, El Salvador, the United States and Mexico will compete in the Olympic Gymnasium of the IDEA Sports City, in singles, men’s and women’s doubles, as well as the mixed modality.

It is worth mentioning that this comparison is carried out behind closed doors in order to protect the health of competitors in the face of the health contingency caused by Covid-19.

Among the badminton players who will compete, the participation of Luis Montoya, current national champion and Mexican preselected, stands out for the Youth Games in Cali, Colombia. Others that stand out are Job Castillo, Armando Gaytán, Andrés Quadri, among others.

Finally, it was reported that as sanitary measures, Femeba maintains strict protocols for athletes, coaches and technical team, stating that in addition to taking gel and checking the temperature, each of those present must present their negative test for SARS-CoV- 2 prior to the competition and during the three days of the competition, Femeba will carry out rapid tests on coaches and athletes to prevent infections.
