the excitement of seeing each other on the court again

Following the proper protocols, the teams returned to play. The modality was developed under individual tests and the sum of points was collective. The tests were three: free throws (three players threw 10 free throws each on set time), triple throws (three other players took seven outside throws each on set time) and a zigzag circuit with throw (skills).

In first turn, Paracao edged Rowing 49-48 in the U13 category. Then, the Paracao U15 won 53-39. To close, the team from the south of the city also triumphed 57-47 over the Oarsman in the First Division, they reported. “For the girls it was a very good thing. We had started with the training sessions in which we were doing the basics, and competing on our court was nice because we hadn’t done it for a long time, ”commented Paracao coach Gustavo Acevedo, in dialogue with UNO.

“The girls had a lot of anxiety and a lot of nerves. They had a good time and then we had to wait for Rowing’s result, so that also generated expectations. Then they were very happy when we won ”, added the coordinator and one of the promoters of women’s basketball in the south of the city.

Basketball and the return to the court

Acevedo confessed that virtual work was a novelty at the beginning, but that with the passage of time he lost his enthusiasm for what he considered that the return was essential to avoid losing players. “At first a lot of girls followed us around Zoom. There was always an interesting group and when there wasn’t one we had between seven or eight girls per category and we put them together ”, she expressed about the process and methods to capture the attention of the players. And he continued: “Then the virtual competition for Zoom declined and we did well. We first participated in Paraná and we had very good results and that helped to maintain and motivate them ”, commented the coach.

On the other hand, he announced that the training sessions will continue in the same way with the logical uncertainty of what happens with the pandemic. “For now we are going to work in December and we are going to make a stop at the Holidays. Then we depend on the pandemic. Surely we are going to see how everything goes from day to day, “he said.

For her part, Rowing’s coach, Betiana Zapata, said that the return to the competition was very pleasant and told how her girls’ feelings were. “It was very good that this was organized because we met again and we did not know how the girls were going to take it. They were excited and with all the adrenaline. That which he gives you when you are about to go out on the field At the same time, you have the challenge of being focused because although it is individual, if you don’t score, you will harm your team ”, reflected the former San Agustín player.

Zapata considered that these types of events generate “great motivation” for the girls not to leave the club. “At this time where there are fewer and fewer in the clubs it is very important to be able to contain them. In Rowing, due to the merit of the teachers and the leaders, we have kept more than 80% of the players and I want to congratulate the Association because all the work it has done during the pandemic is important ”, the DT analyzed. Betu considered that the clubs are training very few girls, and said: “The idea is to continue with these matches because if the players do not reach them we can accommodate ourselves.” At the same time, he announced that for the Mini they also worked to lower costs attentive to the economic situation and made an agreement with Juan Pablo Guerrero, head of the basketball chair in the Physical Education Faculty, so that the students, within an internship, be the auditors.
