The Argentine team of the Billie Jean King Cup (ex Fed Cup) will receive Kazakhstan on February 5 and 6, in the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, for the play-offs, looking for a place in the Qualifiers, prior to the Finals of the competition (where the best countries in the world play). Of course, the event will be tied to the health situation.

The women’s national team will be local in the most emblematic stage of tennis in our country after almost 17 years. The last performance there was in July 2004, when the team captained by Caio Rivera lost 4-1 to Russia in the quarterfinals of the World Group. Since then, Argentina has been a local in Pilará, in the Argentinian Tennis Club, in Parque Roca, in Tecnópolis, in the Náutico de Mar del Plata and in the Córdoba Lawn Tennis Club.

For the series against the Kazakhs, San Juan and Rosario (due to the effect of Nadia Podoroska) were presented as alternatives to shelter the match, but finally the Argentine Tennis Association will take advantage of the BALTC structure, where the Buenos Aires ATP 250 is programmed a few hours later (in the official 2021 calendar, the tournament is listed as of February 8).

The Argentine team, captained by Mercedes Paz, count on Podoroska (48th), semifinalist at the last Roland Garros. They could also join the team Paula Ormaechea (283 °), Victoria Bosio (453 °), María Lourdes Carlé (475 °; she will advance about 40 places next Monday, with the update of the ranking), Guillermina Naya (549 °) and Jazmín Ortenzi (693 °).

Kazakhstan also has three players in the Top 100: Elena Rybakina (19th), Yulia Putintseva (28th; fell to Podoroska at Roland Garros) and Zarina Diyas (79th).
