Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tournament was canceled this year.

“The Laver Cup is a fantastic event, and I’m really happy that I’ll be part of the Europe team in Boston,” said Thiem in a broadcast from the organizers. For Thiem, the Laver Cup is an “event like no other on the tour”. “I’m looking forward to helping Europe get the fourth title.”

Captain Borg is also lucky to have the world number three in his team. “Dominic had an incredible season, despite the unprecedented circumstances. He’s consistently playing at the top level and it was great to see him win his first Grand Slam title, ”said the Swedish tennis legend.

At the event, similar to the Ryder Cup in golf, the best players in Europe compete against the best players from the rest of the world. The names of the other participants will be announced shortly. Record Grand Slam winner Federer launched the event three years ago. The Laver Cup will take place in London in 2022.
