Tennis – first win for doubles Krawietz / Mies in London – Sport

London (dpa) – Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies have given the tennis professionals their chance to reach the semifinals at the ATP Finals.

The German Davis Cup doubles won in London against Lukasz Kubot from Poland and Marcelo Melo from Brazil 6: 2, 7: 6 (7: 5) and celebrated his first victory in London. At the beginning, the two French Open winners had lost in three sets against Wesley Koolhof from the Netherlands and Nikola Mektic from Croatia. Last year, Krawietz and Mies were eliminated in the group stage. On Thursday it is against Rajeev Ram from the USA and the British Joe Salisbury to get through.

“We are very proud that we came back like this after the defeat at the beginning,” said Mies. “Above all I was not satisfied with my performance on Sunday and really wanted to improve today,” said the 30-year-old from Cologne.

Together with Krawietz, he did very well against Kubot and Melo. The German duo played very aggressively from the start and took the first set after 29 minutes. The second round was completely even. In the tie-break, Krawietz and Mies kept their nerve and took the important victory. “It was very important that we won the thing in two sets,” said Krawietz, referring to the starting position. In the group stage, each set win can decide on progress.
