Téléfoot: why subscriptions at broken prices

Is there a wind of panic blowing on Téléfoot’s side? Or is it a promotional offer a few weeks before Christmas? Since November 6, the Téléfoot channel has been offering new subscription rates on its site. Thus, at the 25.90 euros initially planned at its launch, the channel now posts prices at 19.90 euros, a decrease of 25%.

“This offer will be valid until November 26,” says one on the side of Téléfoot. It’s a promotion for new subscribers. From November 27, we will come back to the price of 25.90 euros. Like any business, Téléfoot uses the principle of promotions to boost the number of its subscribers, which is between 250,000 and 600,000 depending on the source.

For Pierre Rondeau, economist specializing in sport and professor at the Sport Management School in Paris, this campaign is not surprising. “It’s pretty classic,” he admits. Everyone does this. But, it is true that at present, this type of offer can make you smile. Me the first by the way. In fact, it will be necessary to wait until the end of the promotion to see if Téléfoot returns to the initial pricing. “

“The current period is not very favorable to attract subscribers”

With the confinement and the closure of the broadcast sites, Téléfoot is experiencing a huge loss. With subscriptions ranging from 79.90 euros to 299.99 euros, bars and restaurants could represent a significant windfall for Téléfoot. It is therefore not surprising that the broadcaster of the French championship is trying to make its prices even more attractive in order to gain on one side what it has lost on the other. “With Christmas and confinement, it is not illogical that Téléfoot is doing these promotions,” assures Pierre Rondeau. The current period is not very favorable to attract subscribers. This is the case, not to mention the cases that are ongoing. “

Since October 8 and the announcement of Jaume Roures, the main manager of Mediapro, who launched the Téléfoot channel, to want to renegotiate the contract with the League (LFP), the world of professional football is in turmoil. In order to get out of this impasse, Mediapro asked a few days ago for a conciliation with the LFP. According to L’Equipe on 6 November, Roures would also have requested a 25% drop in the bill for the rights for the current season. To be continued …
