Podoroska’s path in Linz ended in the quarterfinals

His march stopped. Nadia Podoroska, Argentina’s No. 1 and sixth seed, lost to Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, fourth seeded, by 6-2 and 6-1 and was left out in the quarter-finals of the WTA in Linz.

After her unforgettable time on the clay of Roland Garros, where Podoroska fulfilled her best performance as a professional, being the first Argentine in the semifinals of a Grand Slam in 16 years, she returned in good shape in Linz, on hard court and indoors adding two valuable victories.

Podoroska, 23, No. 48 in the world rankings, completed her first two individual successes in a tournament Indoor WTA, but already in the quarterfinals she was widely surpassed by the Russian in just 58 minutes of the game.

The Argentine tennis leader, after losing to No. 33 WTA, would go up one place in the rankings, beating the young American Coco Gauff.

Thus, Podoroska ended a very special season, with five months less of action due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a sensational quality leap thanks to its time at the French Open. The rosarina went through the qualy in Paris and ended up being a semifinalist, in a historical event.
