Wests Tigers have threatened a fine and then sacked angry striker Josh Aloiai for not attending the season’s training, which starts next week.
Aloiai and his management are scrambling for a release on their Tigers deal last year to sign a more lucrative deal with Manly, but the club refuses to be a doormat.
The Daily Telegraph revealed that a source close to the Wests Tigers firmly believed the club would play a tough game with the 25-year-old.

The source told News Corp: “The club is strong – Josh will not be released from his current playing commitments until the outcome is reached, which the club will accept. The club would prefer a player to replace him.
“West Tigers firmly believe that they can’t have a player their quality who just gets up and goes out. You’ve put a lot of work into Josh. The majority of Wests Tigers fans and members are on the side of management on this matter. If you have an agreement, you are fulfilling that agreement.
“It’s not that difficult – look at your contract and if you want to move on, go ahead. Clubs spend a lot of time formulating a squad and when a key player just gets up and walks out, the club is pushed into the background.

“Why should Wests Tigers suffer because a player wants to hunt more money elsewhere when he’s still under contract? I know the club didn’t want to play in public, but West Tigers know that wasn’t their job. “

The 90-game NRL star told the club he would never wear the Tigers jersey again before chairman Lee Hagipantelis hit back, saying, “He can mow the lawns in Leichhardt and Campbelltown.”
In response to this comment, Aloiai photographed a gardener mowing a lawn with the caption, “I’ll make sure it’s a super fast boy.”
The Tigers will begin pre-season training on Monday. If Aloiai does not show up without a reasonable apology, he will be fined. If he is absent on Tuesday, it could result in his immediate discharge.
The Tigers have resigned themselves to losing Aloiai but are trying to initiate a player swap with Manly, with former junior Curtis Sironen being an option, but the Sea Eagles have so far opposed that suggestion.
