NFL: several weeks without Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle in the 49ers

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be sidelined for six weeks with a sprained ankle, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

The organization considers that he must take the time to rest and heal this injury which has been bothering him since week 2. It may require surgery.

Garoppolo left Sunday’s game in the fourth quarter and had to be replaced by Nick Mullens. He appeared to have been injured earlier in the game, but decided to continue before being taken out of play. He limped to the locker room.

In the loss, he threw for 84 yards and was 11 for 16, with an interception.

He’s completed 67.1 percent of his passes this season, with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

Mullens will replace him as of Thursday night in California, against the Green Bay Packers.

Mullens got the Oct. 4 start against Philadelphia and did well, before being retired in the last quarter. The win went to the Eagles, 25-20.

Schefter has also announced that George Kittle will be away for about eight weeks on his side, and possibly even the rest of the season.

He also did not finish the last game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a broken foot.

Kittle injured his knee in Week 1. He missed two games before coming back with a bang with 15 catches for 183 yards against the Eagles.

In six games this season he has had 474 yards, including two touchdowns.
