Nelson’s threesome to derby luck | BG Göttingen

The new Briton Luke Nelson scored eight seconds before the end with a threesome for the 79-76 victory of BG Göttingen in the Lower Saxony derby against the Braunschweig lions. The first home win for the Violets was perfect.

Göttingen – Already after the second game day of the basketball Bundesliga, it must be stated that two more corona-related cancellations will not avoid a distortion of competition in the table. Because a game had to be canceled on the first day of the match. And when the TOP FOUR cup tournament in Munich with the BG Göttingen, which has already been postponed, is in the stars with the incredibly tight Bundesliga schedule.

So far, the BG Göttingen has been spared any cancellations. So nothing stood in the way of the home premiere, the Lower Saxony derby against the Löwen Braunschweig. After the 73:100 bankruptcy at the Giants Ludwigsburg, BG trainer Roel Moors expected a reaction from his team – and it gave him the albeit narrow 79:73 (40:45) victory.

But before the game started with a jump ball in front of empty stands in the S-Arena, there was a minute’s silence for the BG sponsor and Bundestag Vice President Thomas Oppermann, who died much too early.

In this very close match, which was also watched by NBA professional Dennis Schröder, legitimate successor to Dirk Nowitzki and sole shareholder of the Braunschweiger Löwen, mostly the guests led – once with ten points (57:47) – in Bryon All of them had the top scorer with 22 points in their ranks. Everyone had a private duel with Gottingen’s Englishman Luke Nelson, who almost managed a double-double (21 points and nine assists). In the end, however, Nelson was the one who won this duel due to his decisive three-point to 78:76. In return – there were 7.4 seconds left to play – it was up to everyone to throw the decisive three for victory, but the ball bounced 1.4 seconds before the final siren when it was thrown from beyond the 6.75 m line the ring, hit the field from there. Jorge Gutiérrez converted one of the two free throws after an offensive foul by the Lions to 79:76.

Relief everywhere for players, coaches and supervisors about the successful home debut. “I am very proud of my team. We needed a reaction to the weak game against Ludwigsburg and we succeeded in that, ”said Moors. The defense worked well together, the team showed a lot of energy. “I am very satisfied with the efforts of all my players,” added Moors.

Again, Ron Jackson was not part of the roster. As in Ludwigsburg, Harper Kamp was used for him and justified his nomination when, among other things, his two successful litters in a row meant the 59:59 tie.

. Meanwhile, Benedikt Turudic’s three-month contract has not been extended. He was signed for center Dennis Kramer, who was injured, was out longer, but is now fit again. “These are just financial reasons,” says Coach Moors. “I was very happy with Turudic.” Moors is still looking for a replacement for Jackson.
