LThe Raptors will be Florida’s third team. It’s official now. In a statement the Canadian team confirms that Tampa will be its headquarters at least while the mobility restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic last.
Since last spring Canada keeps its borders closed to non-essential U.S. travelers to prevent the spread of the virus. There is also the obligation to pass a 14-day quarantine to all travelers arriving on Canadian soil. And that also affected the Toronto team itself. And it made it unfeasible for the Raptors to remain in Canada.
For months, both the Raptors and the NBA have been exploring with Canadian health authorities, medical protocols so that the team could receive its rivals in Toronto and that its players could travel to the United States without the need for quarantine. But no agreements were found.
And that’s why the Raptors had been studying the possibility of settle temporarily in a city in the United States like Kansas City (Missouri), Nashville (Tennessee) or Newark (New Jersey). Finally being Tampa (Florida) the headquarters of the Raptors. The NBA begins on December 22 and Canada has already said that the borders will remain closed until at least December 31. Everything suggests that the Raptors, the Tampa Raptors, they will play much of the regular league, if not all, in Florida.
