Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets prediction, preview and odds

Miami will try to take advantage of a game against the only winless team in the NFL on Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins suffered a disappointing loss to Denver that started a five-game winning streak. New York have lost all 10 games but have been competitive in their last two losses.

The dolphin winning streak snapped

Miami was on their way to last week’s game in Denver, but the Dolphins were slowed down by the annoying Broncos. The big story that emerged from that game was the coaching staff’s decision to bench rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He had completed 11 of 20 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown before being replaced by veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who started the team to open the season. Fitzpatrick went 12 of 18 for 117 yards, but he also threw an interception. Fitzpatrick will likely get off to a dubious start with Tagovailoa with a broken thumb.

Tagovailoa has completed 61.9 percent of his passes for 602 yards and six touchdowns. Fitzpatrick has 1,652 yards with 10 TDs and eight picks (69.8%). Running back Myles Gaskin averages 3.9 yards per carry and has scored two touchdowns, but he is in the injured reserve with a knee injury. The main target in the passing game is wide receiver Devante Parker, who caught 44 passes for 523 yards and four touchdowns. Tight end Mike Gesicki added 28 catches for 414 yards. Preston Williams had proven to be a fine weapon before joining the IR with a foot injury.

Jets with quarterback making decision

New York comes into this game after playing two surprisingly competitive games in a row. Why is it a surprise? Well, the Jets are considered the worst team in the NFL and many believe they should tank up to draw Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. However, they did have a chance to beat New England and Los Angeles in two straight weeks. As you’d expect with a winless club, the Jets have been statistically terrible this season. They’re dead last (by a wide margin) in yards per game, counting only 268.6. They are also the last to score 14.9 points per game.

Quarterback Sam Darnold returned to practice Wednesday and is expected to get the nod on Sunday. He has not played since losing to Kansas City on November 1 and is officially listed as questionable for that game. Veteran Joe Flacco was Darnold’s replacement, completing 55.2 percent of his passes for 864 yards. Frank Gore is another veteran on the team who averages 3.6 yards per carry on 123 attempts. Wide receiver Jamison Crower has received 32 team-level receptions for 425 yards and three touchdowns.
