“And here is the long-awaited victory we’ve been waiting for 11 years!” Wrote the tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda after Medvedev’s 3-set success over Dominic Thiem on Sunday evening in London: “It is a victory without a doubt. At this tournament Medvedev did not lose a single match and beat the top 3. Fantastic!!!”

For the first time since Nikolaj Davidenko at the premiere of the season finale in London in 2009, a Russian tennis professional triumphed again at the farewell performance from Great Britain. The 24-year-old Medvedev managed to remain undefeated throughout the tournament – including in the group games.
“The Russian had an incredible end of the season,” wrote the sports portal championat.com on Monday: “After losing to Marton Fucsovics from Hungary in the first round of the French Open, probably neither he nor anyone else could imagine that he would become the main character of the ATP Finals a few months later.”
