US Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau is ready to toss tee-offs to places Augusta National co-founder Bobby Jones never imagined on the eve of the 84th Masters.
But wet and cold conditions could thwart some of the stars DeChambeau can count on. The door opens for four-time grand winner Rory McIlroy, who is still looking for his first green jacket.
It is the sixth time McIlroy has played the Masters with a chance to finish the slam after winning his last majors at the PGA Championship and the British Open in 2014. These came on events hit by heavy rain, as did his triumph in the 2012 PGA Championship.
Meanwhile, defending champion Woods, who made an epic comeback after back surgery with his Masters victory 19 months ago, is looking to capture his sixth green jacket, which matches Jack Nicklaus’ record.
Nobody has won consecutive Masters titles since Woods in 2001 and 2002, but if he can repeat the feat he would also win his 83rd U.S. PGA Tour title, breaking the all-time mark he had with Sam Snead Splits.
