Matic reveals what Fernandes said about the punishment
Nemanja Matic revealed that Bruno Fernandes immediately told him he got the ball from West Brom after a challenge with Conor Gallagher.
Referee David Coote first imposed a penalty on the Manchester United player in the second half of his highly competitive encounter with the Baggies to overturn his decision after re-viewing the incident on the field monitor.
The decision caused controversy. United then awarded their own penalty for a handball by Darnell Furlong, which Fernandes converted to 1-0 after a replay.
That was enough for United to take the three points when Matic spoke to MUTV about the criminal incidents after the game:
“Bruno said immediately that he had the ball first. The referee gave the penalty, but VAR is there to see and make correct decisions. That is why people made VAR to reduce the errors and make right decisions.
“I think it wasn’t a punishment and I’m glad he passed out.
“It’s not easy when you shoot the first and the goalkeeper leaves the line and chases the second. I’m glad he (Fernandes) had the focus. “
