Lucas Arn waits for the return so that Comunicaciones shows another face

The Communications team continues with its preparation in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires with a view to the restart of the National Basketball League. “The truth is that we have all the expectations to play again and show another side of the team and what we really want to do on the court,” said Lucas Arn, a player from the Mercedean squad.

Comu trained yesterday morning at the San Lorenzo Club with the only loss of Miguel Gerlero, who tested positive for covid 19. The player from Cordoba is in good condition, waiting to be able to get the new swab (it would be today) that he determines the medical discharge to be able to resume training.

The team technically led by Ariel Rearte worked on new systems that allow them to have greater offensive fluidity, one of the low points in the first eight games. In addition, it seeks to adjust the work of the interns (Austín Williams and Robert Battle) who arrived once the competition started.

The start of the season was negative for Comunicaciones, since so far it could not win in eight presentations. “The truth is that we were all a bit surprised, but it has to do with the fact that we could not start with the complete team,” said Arn.

The Buenos Aires forward added: “Just a few days before the first game we lost Junior (Luis Cequeira) due to injury. Despite the sum of certain weaknesses, it made us believe that incomplete we could compete the same, we did it in a certain way but it seemed that we always lacked a little ”.

“After that we paid dearly, because adding new teammates in full competition with this year’s format is really difficult, especially with foreigners who did not know their way of playing. This break allows us to join together as a team and think about a more positive restart, “he said.

The competition was stopped due to an outbreak of the coronavirus that affected several teams, in the case of Communications the only one who tested positive was Miguel Gerlero. “We are waiting for Miguel’s recovery, we talk to him every day, luckily he is well and eager to return, but due to an obvious and formal matter he cannot join the squad.”

Arn, who returned to Communications this season and became the squad’s second top scorer this season with 101 points in 8 games played (12.6 average per game), told how they live this moment.

“Beyond that we imagined this situation and that we thought that contagions were a possibility that happened in the bubble and beyond being mentally prepared, we live differently, with nervousness and out there with a little fear in some cases not only for the possibility of getting sick, but for missing part of the concentration or competition ”.

“Nobody wants to lose anything, we all came to compete and make this work. Anyway we have to stay calm and focus on work, “he said.

Since the appearance of the first case of covid-19 in the so-called bubble, much has been said about responsibilities. Arn maintained that “we are all a bit guilty that this has not worked as it should. It was difficult to maintain the bubble in a hotel in the Federal Capital without an outdoor space, with 10 teams ”.

He acknowledged that “the confinement is a bit overwhelming, all of us moving in the same accommodation with only two elevators for 220 people. Somehow, in terms of infrastructure it did not work and there were also individual responsibilities that we cannot point the finger at ”. In this case he said: “The players are all of us and we should act together. That also failed and that sum of errors led to the suspension and discontinuity of the League. It would be hypocritical to point the finger that there are more leaders with first and last names and that no longer matters, because today we are all responsible and we all have to defend that not only the work of all the players in the League is at stake, but also the Argentine League and the Federal Tournament ”.

Finally, he spoke about how they cope these days in the Federal Capital. “The truth is that at times it is overwhelming and we try to find the way around it, go out to the hotel terrace to get some air. But we try to be in the spaces we have, keep calm and focus on work, especially now that we are not competing ”.
