League 1 Without Relegation But There Will Be Promotion, Persib is in the Top Position

GALAMEDIA – PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) confirmed that the Indonesian League 1 competition is planned to continue in February 2021.

The plan is for the highest level of Indonesian football to be held without relegation. However, PT LIB decided that there would be a promotion club from Liga 2.

“(League 1 without relegation) Yes, but promotion still exists from League 2,” said PT LIB President Director Akhmad Hadian Lukita when contacted in Jakarta, Saturday, November 14, 2020.

Akhmad said that Indonesia’s League 1 would not start from scratch. Participating clubs will continue to carry out their adventures that have been delayed since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

The club has only played three matches before the competition is suspended and Persib Bandung will start at the top after sweeping these early matches.

The elimination of the relegation system has drawn pros and cons among football lovers and players alike. The reason is that clubs will not have the prestige or ambition to be the best teams.

On the other hand, PSSI and LIB have their own reasons why they continue to eliminate this degradation system. Some of the considerations were due to the situation that was not yet normal from the pandemic, the concern that there were players who were infected and made the match unattractive, and many teams were left behind by key players.

“At that time, the consideration was that there were clubs whose players would be exposed to Covid-19 and reduce quality. If the conditions are like that, the competition will be unfair,” he explained.

Although there is no relegation, Akhmad hopes that the league will continue to be competitive and wants the players to be serious about the competition in order to maintain their quality.

For him, this seriousness will prove that Indonesian football can live in the midst of a pandemic.

“Hope is prestigious because of enthusiasm, all players without any degradation, but at least we show the public that the ball is alive and enjoyable to watch,” he said.
