Jurgen Klopp faces Fabinho’s decision as Liverpool consider an overhaul

Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to eight games when they topped the Premier League with a win over Leicester City.

An own goal by Jonny Evans was followed by goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino as the Reds scored an impressive 3-0 triumph at Anfield on Sunday.

The Premier League and the world champions are now concentrating again on the Champions League, in which three points at home against Atalanta on Wednesday guarantee a place in the knockout phase with two games left.

And here we look forward to the changes Jürgen Klopp could make the next time his team is in action.

Full back rotation?

Liverpool are not exactly on point in defense but the options are limited.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are out, while Nat Phillips is not qualified for the Champions League.

With Joel Matip, James Milner and Fabinho unlikely to start three games in a week, Klopp faces some tough decisions.

One of Matip or Fabinho is likely to be turned on the bench, which means teenage Rhys Williams could make another start in the Champions League.

Andy Robertson has to rest with Kostas Tsimikas on standby on the left, while Neco Williams on the other hand impressed in a half-hour cameo against Leicester and replaced the evergreen Milner.

The same applies to the engine room

In midfield, a lot could depend on whether Fabinho starts in defense – and whether Jordan Henderson or Thiago Alcantara are fit.

Both were struggling with injuries and it would be a surprise if both were involved.

Milner was able to come in to expand the engine room, as he did when he switched from right-back after Naby Keita was ticked off over the weekend.

But with Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri almost certain to be out and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain not ready, Gini Wjnaldum and Curtis Jones will likely be asked to play again after their appearance against Leicester.

Wrong return

The availability of Mohamed Salah means Liverpool’s top scorer should return after contracting the coronavirus.

Liverpool could make up for the lack of availability in midfield by moving to 4-2-3-1.

Sadio Mane, however, appeared tired against Leicester and could be benched while Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi waited patiently for another chance to start.

Minamino could represent Roberto Firmino, although Diogo Jota, the man in shape, certainly wants to keep his place.
