Junior luge champion in luge Bērziņš does not qualify for the World Cup stage / Article / LSM.lv

Gints Bērziņš, a talented junior sledge, who was not the only Latvian athlete to qualify for the first stage of the World Cup season scheduled for the weekend on the Iglesia track, started unsuccessfully in the Nations Cup in Austria on Friday, according to the organizers.

Athletes who, according to the results so far, have not guaranteed participation in the World Cup, are competing in the Nations Cup.

Artūrs Dārznieks won the 3rd place in the men’s competition, while Mārtiņš Bots / Roberts Plūme competed equally successfully in the two-crew competition. Riks Kristens Rozītis was the sixth for men, but Sigita Bērziņa achieved the ninth result for women.

After a failure at the bottom of the track, Bērziņš took the 27th place in the competition of 29 participants. To qualify for the World Cup, you had to reach at least 18th place. Last season, Bērziņš both won the youth Olympic Games and won silver at the World Junior Championships.

In addition to participating in the preliminaries, Kristers Aparjods, Ulla Zirne, Kendija Aparjode and Elīza Tīruma, as well as two-man crews Andris Šics / Juris Šics, Oskars Gudramovičs / Pēteris Kalniņš provided the right to start in the first stage of the World Cup according to last season’s results.

In the World Cup stage, men and two crews will start on Saturday, but on Sunday there will be women and sprint competitions.
