Jon Rahm manages hole-in-one over water at Masters

SPania’s golf star Jon Rahm landed a viral hit on the net two days before the start of the 84th Masters with a real artifice – an unusual ace and that on his 26th birthday. The world number two let his ball dance flat over the lake on the 16th hole of the Augusta National Golf Club during training on Tuesday. The golf ball touched the water three times, then hopped onto the green and then rolled into the hole as if by magic.

“Second hole-in-one in two days – happy birthday for me!” Commented the Spaniard on the spectacular clip on his Twitter channel. The tournament’s official Twitter channel also shared the scene, which was viewed more than eleven million times within a few hours. The fans, who cannot be there this time due to the corona pandemic, reacted enthusiastically to the unbelievable blow in the comments on the Internet.

The only catch: he “only” succeeded in training. Before the actual Masters tournament, it is part of the ritual for the players at the famous 16th hole to let the ball bounce over the lake during training and to lay it as close as possible to the hole. Rahm now succeeded in doing this to perfection. The tournament starts on Thursday.

Germany’s golf idol Bernhard Langer misses his “permanent partner” Martin Kaymer before the start. “I always like to play with Martin, we always had fun and joy,” said the 63-year-old, who will be competing in Augusta for the 37th time. Langer is the only German in the field. Kaymer had not qualified and had not received an invitation.

In the past, the two-time tournament winner Langer (1985, 1993) and Kaymer usually went on a training round together. The Anhausen player, the oldest player in the field, has to do without that this time. But Langer hopes “that I will see him again in April”. The US Masters will be held again in five months, at its usual place in the tournament calendar. This year, the most prestigious tournament had to be postponed from spring to autumn due to the corona pandemic.
