Joachim Löw and the self-dismantling: national coach on call

Joachim Löw, 60, is now behind him. There is no international match until March. The national soccer coach is free. No more press conferences, no more encounters with TV experts who prune him after games. Just like Bastian Schweinsteiger, his former captain, who said after the 0: 6 against Spain on Tuesday that the DFB selection in Seville was “terrible”.

Schweinsteiger was in a studio of the ARD, he wore a great suit and was well haired. Löw was standing somewhere in the stadium in Seville and looked years old. His footballers had “somehow given up on the concept,” “walked around somewhere,” he stammered, rubbing his hair.

After returning from Andalusia, Löw went underground, as he always does when the national team is not playing. He lives near Freiburg. During his exams, which often last for weeks, Löw makes tactical considerations. Is the defense better with a back three or back four? Does the game run more smoothly in midfield with Kai Havertz or Leon Goretzka? Such things.
