Ice hockey in Frankfurt: Lions have botched the start of the season

EOlli Salo is not in a bad loser. The head coach of the Löwen Frankfurt congratulated the Bietigheim Steelers on their victory on Sunday before entering into the analysis of the 2: 7 defeat in the Second German Ice Hockey League. Despite the weak start with seven points from six games and ninth place in the table, it didn’t seem so negative at first: “We worked hard and played pretty well. The game then slipped out of our hands more and more, ”said Salo.

What followed was a tightening of the tone after the Finn had expressed himself critically in the previous week with a view to his match plans and partly to blame for the poor start. The 37-year-old now focused on the problems in the build-up game and the coordination errors of his team, which “don’t work well enough together yet”, before making a rigorous judgment: “The concentration was missing. We had talked about the fact that Friday’s victory was no longer worth anything. Unfortunately, none of them got it, ”said Salo at the press conference.

Did the Finn really mean all the players? Because in the game of lions there were also bright spots. The fourth row with Carter Proft and the Mieszkowski brothers did a good job, just like in the 5-2 on Friday against Ravensburg. In order to take points to the Main, the Lions, who played well at times, lacked the necessary consistency in goal completion and defense.

Frankfurt defended in a student-like manner at the beginning – the resulting 3-0 deficit after 16 minutes was not caught up by the team against the clever Steelers defense. Part of the truth of this used Sunday was that the strong Frankfurt keeper Patrick Klein did not have his best day.
