FIFA Helps Liverpool Pay Joe Gomez Salary

Liverpool

Liverpool had to lose Joe Gomez for a long time because of a knee injury. So, the Reds were assisted by FIFA to pay Gomez’s salary until he recovered.

Gomez picked up the injury while defending England during the international break last week. Gomez’s knee got into trouble during a training session with The Three Lions.

The injury made Gomez undergo surgery and it took him a long time to recover. The latest news says that Gomez is likely to catch up with Virgil van Dijk, who is sidelined until the end of the season.

Losing Gomez is of course very detrimental to Liverpool considering that he was a mainstay at the back when they won the Premier League last season. Moreover, Liverpool now only has one fit center-back, Joel Matip, until the transfer market opens in January.

The hurricane of injuries at Liverpool’s back line also got worse after Andrew Robertson, his mainstay left back, was injured while defending the Scotland national team. However, behind calamities, there are always blessings.

Likewise with Joe Gomez’s injury, because Liverpool will receive compensation from FIFA. Quoted Liverpool Echo, the compensation in the form of FIFA will pay Gomez’s salary.

This is part of the FIFA Club Protection Program. This program provides compensation to clubs who lose players while serving for their country, both in matches and in preparation.

This program has not been implemented in the first 28 days of Gomez Absence, and after that Liverpool will be assisted by a total of around 2 million pounds (Rp. 37.3 billion) until the 23-year-old player recovers.

To note, Joe Gomez earns Liverpool around 80 thousand pounds per week per week. Meanwhile, the maximum value of FIFA’s “insurance” is 6.75 million pounds for 365 days or a prorated of around 18.340 pounds per day.
