American swimming star Caleb Dresell set two world records in the final of the International Swimming League (ISL) competition in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, on Saturday.

The record has been broken in the 100-meter butterfly and 50-meter freestyle swim in the short-course or 25-meter long pool.

The 24-year-old Dresell reached a 100-meter butterfly record in 47.78 seconds, beating the previous record of 48.08 seconds set by Chad Le Clos, a South African swimming talent.

In the 50-meter freestyle swim, Dresell improved his personal record by 0.08 seconds, covering a distance of 20.16 seconds.

Significantly, at the 2019 World Championships in Budapest, Dresell repeated the record of his compatriot, the legendary Michael Phelps.

“This has been a very exciting day and I am very pleased with the result,” the swimmer told the BBC.

Since October 16, swimming teams have been competing behind closed doors in Budapest. Two teams from the USA – “Cali Condors” and “LA Current”, as well as two European teams – “London Roar” and “Energy Standard” participate in the competition.

Dresell’s two set records and the team’s women’s victory in the 4 × 100 meter relay helped the Cali Condors team to take the lead in the overall standings of the ISL finals.

ISL competitions are held in the short 25-meter pool, while major competitions such as the Olympics or the World Championships are held in the 50-meter pool, however, NBC Sports media experts have acknowledged that Dresell’s performance in Saturday’s competition was really impressive.
