From Brest, which will represent the originally planned Copenhagen in the race program, the peloton will set off on a total of 3383 kilometers of pilgrimage for the fourth time in history after 1952, 1974 and 2008. The Danish capital will not host the Grand Départ until 2022. not only the sports world has been paralyzed by the coronavirus crisis.

The main reason why the Danes will have to wait for the big event is the deadline collision in the busy calendar next year. Due to this year’s pandemic, a number of large events have accumulated in it. Among other things, the Olympic Games in Tokyo were postponed for a year, but also, for example, the European Football Championship, during which Copenhagen will be one of the host cities.

The drama on the Vuelta continues! Carapaz deprived Roglič of the leader’s red jersey

The first four stages will take place in Brittany. Cyclists will have to cover, among other things, the largest portion of kilometers on the Tour in a single day since 2000. In the seventh stage, the racers will cover 248 kilometers on the Vierzon – Le Creusot route.

The double trip to the iconic Mont Ventoux mountain, which has the symbolic nickname Giant of Provence, will come in stage number 11 from Sorgues to Malaucene, which will be the second after the first day off. For the first time, the peloton will travel the easiest way to the top (26 km at an average slope of 4.6%), and the second time, on the contrary, from the most demanding side (21 km at an average slope of 7.5%).

One of the key stages will probably be the eighteenth, when the riders will compete with another famous peak of the Col du Tourmalet when visiting the Pyrenees. The final winner, however, will be determined by the second fight with the chronometer in the 20th stage from Libourne to Saint-Emilion (31 km). The first time trial will take place on the fifth day of the race on the Changé – Laval route (27 km).

Overall, the route should have a slightly more traditional touch, as spurtors will get more space and time trial specialists will also be able to shine. Slovenian Tadej Pogačar will defend the overall championship.
