Coverage of the first ODI between Australia and India begins at 2 p.m. on Fox Cricket Channel 501.
The SCG fell silent for a moment of reflection on the lives of Dean Jones and Phillip Hughes before the first men’s ODI of the summer.
Six years ago, on Friday, Hughes tragically died at the age of 25 after being hit by a bouncer in the middle of the SCG while playing at the Sheffield Shield for South Australia.
Australia and India fell on the same ground at the first ODI, which Hughes’ life recalled with a 4:08 p.m. applause – a nod to his Australian test number of 408.
As the tribute climbed on the scoreboard, David Warner looked up to the sky while skipper Aaron Finch confirmed his presence from above when he hit 50 minutes later.
“He was and will always be loved by the entire Australian cricket family and his legacy will live forever,” the announcer said ahead of the game.
Ahead of the game, ODI legend Jones was also honored, who died of a heart attack in Mumbai in September at the age of 59.

The crowd fell silent before the game when a video of Jones’s highlights was played on screens on the ground.
Both teams lined up in the middle of the SCG for the tribute, with Indian cricketers showing their respect by placing their hats on the ground behind them.
The video was followed by an impeccably observed minute of silence.
Friday’s game marks the first time the Australian men’s cricket team has played since Jones’ sudden death.
