Champions League: Eleven professionals from Ajax Amsterdam tested positive for Corona

With only 17 players, the Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam left for their Champions League game at FC Midtjylland. Among others, Andre Onana, Maarten Stekelenburg, ex-Bremer Davy Klaassen, Zakaria Labyad, Dusan Tadic and Ryan Gravenberch are missing – the corona tests are said to have been positive for a total of eleven professionals before departure. This is unanimously reported by several Dutch media.

On Saturday Ajax had won 5-2 against Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie. The positive tests had occurred in the PCR tests between the league game and departure. Since these have often given false-positive results in the past, the players concerned were tested again on Monday, reports “De Telegraaf”.

Should the results turn out to be negative, the players could travel to Denmark on Tuesday and, with the approval of Uefa, still play. After two matchdays in the Champions League, Ajax are in third place with one point behind Liverpool (six points) and Atalanta (four), Midtjylland has not yet been able to score a point and is fourth.
