Browns Coach Will Make NFL History | Excelsior

CLEVELAND

Callie Brownson, Chief of staff of the Cleveland Browns, will be in charge of directing the work of the tight ends during this Sunday’s game in Jacksonville, making her the first woman in history to take on coaching duties for a position in the NFL.

Earlier this year, shortly after his tenure began, Head coach Kevin Stefanski has signed Brownson, who will fill the role of Drew Petzing on Sunday.

The regular tight ends coach did not travel to Florida with the team, because his wife Louisa gave birth to the first child of the marriage on Saturday.

Brownson is one of several coaches currently working in the NFL. Their normal duties include various coordination duties with all of Cleveland’s coaching staff.

This week, Stefanski, who worked in Minnesota in a position similar to Brownson’s, praised its ability to make constant adjustments due to the challenges of COVID-19. The team had to close its facilities three times this week, due to some players testing positive for coronavirus.

Our job is to adjust as coaches and to see who is available for us, as well as to define together a game plan to win, ”Stefanski said Wednesday. “I have some really good coaches working with me … Callie is giving her all for us, she is the star of the day.”

Brownson made history this season, during a Cleveland game in Washington. In that duel there was a coach in each of the teams, as well as a member of the refereeing body.
