American golfer Brian Gay sank a birdie putt on the first hole of the playoffs to defeat his partner Wyndham Clark and win the PGA Bermuda Championship this Sunday.

With victory, Gay snapped a seven-year win drought in the PGA of the United States.

The world-ranked number 328, 48, captured his first US PGA title since the 2013 Humana Challenge for his fifth win overall.

“This is absolutely insane,” Gay said. “I have been playing very badly since the covid. It has been a struggle, to work hard, to come back ”.

Gay finished with a card of 64 hits (-7) and Clark a card with 65 (-6) in the final round to leave them tied at the top of the leaderboard at 269 (-15) after 72 holes at the Port Royal golf course in Southampton.

After a key birdie on hole 18 and 72 of the tournament to equal Clark for the lead, Gay sank the key putt in the tiebreaker round.

It was then that Clark threw his eight-foot birdie past the hole and moments later Gay took the victory.

American Ollie Schniederjans was third with 271 (-13).

Argentine Emiliano Grillo was the best Latin American ranked 34th with 279 (-5), followed by Colombian Camilo Villegas and Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas with 285 (+1) and 287 (+3), respectively.
