Berlin. The satisfaction after the clear 97:74 success against Telekom Baskets Bonn was great for the German basketball champion Alba Berlin. “With the focus with which we went into the game, that was good. And keeping the focus always up is the biggest challenge at the moment,” said captain Niels Giffey. Especially after half-time, Alba was able to improve on Sunday. “We wanted to keep the energy level and not fall into a hole. And we succeeded well,” said Center Johannes Thiemann.

Just two days earlier, Alba had disappointed in the Euroleague against St. Petersburg. “It was clear that this should not happen again,” reported Thiemann. For coach Aito Garcia Reneses, it was above all a question of mentality. “With three games in a week, it’s hard to keep your focus,” said the Spaniard. Against Bonn, however, his team “found focus and attitude again.”

After eight games in the past 18 days – directly after the 17-day Corona break – Alba can take a quick breath. Because in the new week, the Euroleague home game on Thursday (8 p.m. / Magentasport) against Khimki Moscow is only one game on the program. “It will help us get our rhythm back,” said playmaker Peyton Siva.

Because the days should not only be used for regeneration, but above all for training. “We need the time. In the BBL you can perhaps allow yourself a mistake or two. In the Euroleague that is immediately punished,” said Thiemann. Aito then hopes to be able to work on things that have not worked well recently. And there won’t be many other options at first. “Because we won’t have that time in December,” he said.
