Bonn and Saibou reach an out-of-court settlement

Basceticball Bundesliga club Telekom Baskets Bonn and the disgraced national player Joshiko Saibou have come together out of court in their legal dispute. “The parties reached an agreement and agreed not to disclose the content,” the association announced on Thursday on its homepage. There will be no further court date.

In the previous week, the labor court in Bonn had given the parties a week to reach an amicable settlement before a date for the announcement would have taken place on November 25. At this point, the Baskets and Saibou had not been able to agree on a solution. The court had suggested that the club should pay the 30-year-old, whose contract was dated June 30, 2021, nine gross monthly salaries.

The Baskets broke up with the player in early August after Saibou took part in a large-scale demonstration against the anti-corona measures in Berlin. On August 26th, the labor court had already come to a conciliation appointment with the two parties, but there was no agreement at the time.

The reason for the termination of Saibou, who had participated in the demo with his girlfriend, long jumper Alexandra Wester, was, according to the club, the fact that the player was “a permanent risk of infection”. A “watertight hygiene concept” is “not possible” with Saibou.
